Breaking News: UNIZIK Elevates Dr. Kingsley C. Nnakwo to Associate Professor
Nnamdi Azikiwe University has approved the elevation of Kingsley C. Nnakwo to the rank of Associate Professor in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Faculty of Engineering.
The promotion recognises Dr. Nnakwo’s outstanding contributions to engineering education, high-impact research, professional service, and academic leadership. A product of the University, Dr. Nnakwo earned his Bachelor of Engineering (2009), Master of Engineering (2014), and Doctor of Philosophy (2017) degrees in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from UNIZIK, graduating with distinction at the postgraduate levels.
Born in 1984 into the family of Late Mr. and Mrs. John Nnakwo of Ukpali Amufie, Akiyi Umulokpa, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, Dr. Nnakwo has built a distinguished academic profile. His research spans advanced alloys, composite materials, corrosion engineering, bioengineering, and energy materials. He has published extensively in reputable international journals indexed in Scopus and Thomson Reuters, and has presented scholarly papers at major international conferences.
A recipient of the TETFund Institution-Based Research Grant, Dr. Nnakwo also serves the global research community as a Guest Co-Editor with Elsevier and as an editor and reviewer for leading international journals.
Within the University, he has held several strategic academic and administrative roles, including Associate Dean, Head of Department, Deputy Director (Public–Private Partnership), Postgraduate Coordinator, Faculty Alumni Representative, and Departmental Examination Officer. Beyond campus, he contributes to grassroots development as Chairman of the Umulokpa Academic Congress Education Committee and Chairman of the Akiyi Town Union Electoral Board.
Professionally, Dr. Nnakwo is the National Assistant Technical Secretary of the Nigerian Metallurgical Society (NMS). He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Metallurgical Society (FNMS) and a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), a COREN-registered Engineer, and a member of the Materials Science and Technology Society of Nigeria (MMSN) and the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM).
His recognitions include the NUESA Awards of Excellence (2019, 2025), NAMMES Awards of Excellence (2022, 2025), the UMAC Award of Excellence, and the FNMS Fellowship Award (2023).
Dr. Nnakwo currently serves as Head of the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at Nnamdi Azikiwe University. His elevation to Associate Professor is widely seen as a well-deserved milestone that reflects sustained excellence and leadership in Nigeria’s engineering academia.
His elevation to the rank of Associate Professor is with effect from 01 October 2025.
