The City Boy Movement (CBM) has issued a strong public disclaimer distancing itself from a group operating under the name “CityBoy LikeMinds” and other similar platforms, warning Nigerians to exercise caution and avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes.

In a press statement released on Friday, the national leadership of the Movement said its attention had been drawn to a series of online messages, advertisements, and digital platforms falsely claiming affiliation with the organisation.

According to the statement, these platforms invite unsuspecting members of the public to register as volunteers using their Voter Registration Numbers, with promises of monthly stipends.

The Movement categorically denied any connection with such entities, describing the claims as false, misleading, and entirely unauthorized. It emphasized that it has “no affiliation, connection, authorization, or relationship whatsoever” with any group or platform operating under the name “CityBoy LikeMinds” or any similar variation, urging the public to disregard such representations.

Clarifying its official digital presence, the Movement stated that its only recognized website is https://www.cityboymovement.ng/, adding that any other website, link, or platform purporting to represent it should be considered invalid and ignored.

The CBM further reiterated that membership of the Movement is strictly voluntary and free of charge, noting that it does not demand or collect any form of payment for registration or participation. It also disclaimed reports suggesting that volunteers are entitled to monthly stipends through any unofficial platform, describing such claims as deceptive and unsanctioned.

The statement raised serious concerns about the unauthorized collection of personal data, particularly Voter Registration Numbers, warning that such requests are potentially fraudulent. Members of the public were advised to exercise extreme caution and refrain from engaging with such platforms.

According to the Movement, the circulation of such misleading information appears deliberately calculated to deceive unsuspecting individuals, misappropriate personal data, and fraudulently exploit its name, goodwill, and reputation.

The organisation disclosed that it has commenced steps to identify those behind the activities and vowed to pursue legal action against any individual or group found culpable of impersonation, fraud, or misrepresentation. It also encouraged the public to report suspicious messages, links, or platforms to relevant law enforcement and regulatory authorities.

Reaffirming its core values, the City Boy Movement described itself as a law-abiding, transparent, and grassroots-driven organisation committed to youth empowerment and the promotion of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through lawful and ethical means.

PUBLIC DISCLAIMER: DISCLAIMER OF AFFILIATION WITH “CITYBOY LIKEMINDS” AND OTHER UNAUTHORIZED PLATFORMS

The attention of the national leadership of the City Boy Movement (CBM) has been drawn to a series of online messages, advertisements, and digital platforms (particularly one operating under the name “CityBoy LikeMinds”) which falsely claim to be affiliated with the Movement and which invite members of the public to register as volunteers using their Voter Registration Numbers, with promises of monthly stipends.

The City Boy Movement hereby states, clearly, categorically, and unequivocally, as follows:

(1). NO AFFILIATION WHATSOEVER:

(a) The City Boy Movement has no affiliation, connection, authorization, or relationship whatsoever with any group, organization, website, or platform operating under the name “CityBoy LikeMinds” or any similar variation thereof.

(b) Any such representation is false, misleading, and unauthorized, and should be treated as such.

(2). OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF THE MOVEMENT

(a) The only official website of the City Boy Movement is: https://www.cityboymovement.ng/

(b) The general public is hereby advised that any other website, link, portal, or digital platform, under whatever name, platform, guise, or description, purporting to represent or act on behalf of the Movement is unauthorized, invalid, and should be disregarded in its entirety.

(3). NO PAYMENT OR FINANCIAL INDUCEMENT FOR MEMBERSHIP

(a) Membership and participation in the City Boy Movement are strictly voluntary and entirely free of charge.

(b) The Movement does not request, demand, or collect any form of payment from any individual for the purpose of registration, membership, or volunteer engagement.

(4). DISCLAIMER OF STIPEND CLAIMS AND DATA REQUESTS

(a) The claim that individuals who register through any such unauthorized platform will receive monthly stipends or financial incentives is false, deceptive, and not sanctioned by the City Boy Movement.

(b) Furthermore, any request for personal data, including Voter Registration Numbers or other sensitive information, through such platforms is unauthorized and potentially fraudulent.

(c) Members of the public are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution and refrain from engaging with such platforms.

(5). ADVICE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC

(a) The dissemination of such misleading information appears calculated to:

(i). Deceive unsuspecting members of the public,

(ii). Misappropriate personal data,

(iii). Fraudulently exploit the name, goodwill, and reputation of the City Boy Movement;

(b) The public is therefore urged to disregard entirely any such messages, platforms, or claims.

(6). REPORTING AND LEGAL ACTION

(a) The City Boy Movement is taking steps to identify those behind these unauthorized activities and will not hesitate to invoke the full weight of the law against any individual or group found to be involved in impersonation, fraud, or misrepresentation.

(b) Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious links, messages, or platforms to relevant law enforcement and regulatory authorities.
